Sean: art is about butts.
Me: No. It’s about boobs.
Sean: No, art is objectively about butts.
Me: No it’s about boobs.
Sean: Everyone has butts
Me: Everyone has boobs, if you count moobs.
Sean: Moobs are not nearly as attractive as boobs
Me: Fine. Everyone has nipples. Therefore, art is about nipples.
Sean: If you draw nipples, they can get censored, butts can’t
Me: Yes they can
Sean: Yes but you can clothe a butt and it’s not censored
Me: You can clothe nipples and not be censored.
Sean: But you can’t have every single drawing be of really stiff nipples under shirts.
Me: Is that a challenge.Lesson in this? You can all blame Sean for the future of my art.
He’s wrong though. You know who doesn’t have a butt?

We have a strong black woman in a leadership position who doesn’t even need to speak to command attention.
A girl who’s entire being is big, from her hips to her hair to her lips, and is so free spirited and comfortable with herself.
A smart and graceful ballerina who’s femininity does not hold back her ability to fight.
And a male protagonist who’s not afraid to be seen hanging out with strong women.
that’s why Steven Universe is a flawless show, and other shows should take note.

Food doesn’t taste better or worse when documented by Instagram. Laughter is as genuine over Skype as it would be sharing a sofa. Pay attention. Take in nature, hold someone’s hand, read a book. But don’t ever apologize for snapping a photo of a sunrise after a hike, or blogging about the excitement of having a crush, or updating your goodreads account. All of these things are good and should be celebrated. Smile at strangers on the sidewalk and like your friends’ selfies. It’s all good for the human spirit.
