Yes, it’s totally silly that one year after launching Tumblr, we’re moving the official Tumblr blog off of WordPress because it was too much work to update.

We want to spotlight all of the neat stuff happening on Tumblr.  So today we’re announcing the official Tumblr tumblelog:  staff.tumblr.com

There’s a lot we want to do here.  In addition to showing off the new features we’re building, we’re dying to brag about everything we see you folks doing. To cover it all, we’re inviting some new members of the Tumblr family to contribute.  Introductions to follow.

Thanks, everyone!

You ever find an ironic post since… you know tumblr is now owned by wordpress

Tumblr,

Earlier today we announced to the press that we are running a beta test program for Post+, Tumblr’s newest add-on subscription tool. Post+ is a completely optional tool that will allow creators to make some of their posts exclusive to their paid subscribers. You can read more about it right over here on our @postplus Tumblr. This feature is being tested by a small group of incredible creators on Tumblr.

We want to hear about what you like, what you love, and what concerns you. Even if it’s not very nice. Tell us. We can take it. We WANT that feedback. It helps us make Tumblr better.

What we won’t ever accept is the targeted harassment and threats these creators have endured since this afternoon. These creators are some of the most talented people around, and all they’re doing is testing out a feature. These are the people who graciously agreed to pilot a program to help us discover bugs before we open it up to all creators. These are the humans who are testing a feature that we hope will soon help thousands of Tumblr creators feel empowered, get rewarded for their efforts, and find support within their community.

Our Community Guidelines are clear: Don’t engage in targeted abuse, bullying, or harassment.

Anyone in violation of these guidelines will be dealt with swiftly and will be forced to contend with the appropriate consequences. It’s okay to tell us how you feel. It’s not okay to bully someone because you disagree with their choices.

@staff there are actual literal nazis on this website. You can excuse nazis, but you draw the line at making fun of blue checkmarks, you conniving weasels??

You were raised with free will.

You fought for your people, you bled for your people, you died for your people, and as far as you were concerned, that would be that. And then you were raised for your people, raised for all people, because the looming threats were too great. You had heard stories of death knights, of ravenous, bloodthirsty abominations of men and women, hell-bent on pain and suffering. They were the dark horse that allowed for victory in the Northrend expedition in years past, and then they shamelessly remained chained to the mortal realm. And now you are one of them.

There are many like you, ones raised recently. They all seem as confused as you do. A few take poorly to the resurrection, and they lash out. They meet a quick end. You witness one of these ends, one trying to take down as many others as they can before they go out. Without hesitation, an orc cleaved them in two with his axe, though you catch the mourning look across his face as he murmured departing words in his native tongue.

Hunger gnaws at you. It’s confusing, it’s wrong, you don’t understand it. It tears at your soul, the pain and maddening thoughts only rising to a crescendo you are certain you don’t want to see. The only treatment is pain on the living, one of the older knights tell you. You must inflict some before you lose yourself to madness. It’s terrible, and you don’t wish to, but the relief that comes with your first torturous slaughter is addictive in a way you cannot ever find the words to describe.

The older knights speak of their will being stripped from them, so completely and utterly that sometimes it was hard to realize that they weren’t acting themselves. Their conviction was whole, the voice in the dark corners of their mind encouraging more and more. A few will be honest about the broken, twisted part inside them, a part that wishes to feel that control, that near divine devotion once more. They speak of it with disgust, but there’s still a hint of longing in their harsh voice, and you realize that incongruous gap is within you as well.

You were raised with free will.

Primary problem isn’t not enough, it’s never enough in the right places and the right amounts and it costs money, time, and resources to coordinate the logistics of it.

We can power the world with acres of solar panels in the Sahara but we can’t get the electricity to you in Boston because there’s no reasonable way to get it there.

We can feed the world but we have to get it from where it’s grown to where it’s processed to where it’s stored to where it’s distributed to where it’s consumed… and that costs a fuckton of money, time, and resources that isn’t going to happen for free.

We can house the homeless but the homes are located in the middle of outer suburbs, owned by people who are using them as investments and will only sell them if they need the money… and then there’s the cost to the new owners to fix up what the seller never knew was broken. Or they’re high-rise apartments owned by foreign investors as residences to live in while they’re there on business.

Find a way to get water, power, and products from where it’s produced to where it’s processed to where it’s distributed in a supremely efficient and cheap manner THAT CANNOT BE PRIVATIZED OR MONETIZED and you’ll do more to end need than any civilization has to that moment.
