HBO President Jeffrey Baratheson stated that the show’s ratings were primarily to blame, but insiders have suggested the show may actually be ending so abruptly because it’s written by George R.R. Martin, who is fond of unexpected deaths. Killing off the series in the middle of a season definitely fits his tendency, and today has been dubbed “The Red Broadcasting” by his fans.
