So I get a ton of bad con artists/sleezy dudes messaging me on facebook and skype. I don’t know if I told you guys what I tend to do. I have a theme for each week (they happen four to five times a week at least, sometimes several times in one day), and I respond in that theme. Last week was ‘angry boyfriend hacked girlfriend’s account and caught her cheating’ theme. This week is Doctor Seuss.
A friend told me I should start saving these, so I will. And don’t worry about their name, these dudes always get banned after a day or two from facebook. This guy just kind of.. wandered away and stopped replying. I was really hoping I’d get the whole poem in.

if you’re an artist and you survive off of your commissions, never ever ever

agree to take payment after you do the commissioned piece. There are other options like doing 50% up front 50% after. Or just go the safest route and firmly state you only do 100% upfront.
Please, as a commissioner you can GET A REFUND through paypal if you get screwed but if you’re an artist and you work for free well!!!!!!!!!! you’re shit outta luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep yep. I don’t accept payments for commissions, it’s up front or I will not even start it. I do accept payments for large originals I did on my own, since those tend to run in the thousands, but not for commissions.
I think about it this way. Generally commissions are pretty specific to the person hiring me (their oc, their pet dog, etc), so the chance of me being able to sell it afterwards if they don’t pay is usually considerably less than normal. So not only would I be eating the material cost myself, but I would be stuck with a painting that I can’t sell either.
