If a ghost can open cupboards and break things, why not just take a pencil, find paper, write exactly why it’s unhappy, and tape the message on the fridge.

It just became second nature to close all the cupboards first thing in the morning (even though they’d been closed the night before). Which was when things escalated from banging cupboard doors to actually breaking things.

Faucets, door handles, curtain rods ripped from the wall… all the repairs started to add up.

“Look, I didn’t mind having an ethereal roommate, but I can’t afford to keep fixing all this shit. Here’s a pencil and some paper. Just write what’s bothering you–I doubt you could put anything that would be more expensive than having a plumber come out to replace all the faucets again.”

The next morning there’s a scrawl line at the top of the page that devolved into an angry scribbling mess that tore through the page. Two cupboard doors were entirely ripped off.

“I don’t want to get someone in to banish you, but this is ridiculous. Just tell me what you want.”

The second piece of paper is ripped into shreds and several knives are embedded in the wall.

A careful examination of the paper scraps show that it had the same scribbles as the first piece.

A quick trip to the library and a stop at a store later, there are kindergarten workbooks on learning to write spread across the counter.

“Look, I don’t know if you’re just being difficult, but I hope not. So I got an audiobook on learning to read and write, and here are some workbooks for kids–don’t get mad–to teach them their letters. Just press play on the stereo, and work through the books at your own pace. I’ll get more when you finish.”

The first workbook is half-completed before being ripped to pieces, but at least there was no other damage. Replacing it is significantly cheaper than replacing cupboard doors.

It takes awhile, but eventually the workbooks progress to a fifth grade level. These ones are starting to be more costly (they’re bigger, for one thing), but it’s not even the money anymore. Little notes scrawled in a shaky hand appear on the steamy bathroom mirror

And then one day there’s a message taped to the fridge. The spelling and penmanship isn’t the best, but it’s legible and even signed.

if your argument against poc being portrayed among the warcraft fantasy races is “Well The Lore Says-”, what you’re actually saying is “i literally care more about time-travelling dragons and nightmare moose than the erasure of millions of real life people, some of whom actively engage with this franchise”.

i don’t give a shit how long ago this game was made. i’ve been playing since vanilla, i know how backwards it can be – the racism inherent in the worldbuilding itself is as glaringly obvious as it is excessive. it sucks. it sucks and it probably won’t change. 

but here’s the thing: new content is created all the time. new lore, new stories, new canonical information. they can choose to include poc in the warcraft franchise whenever they want, and they overwhelmingly decide against it.

go into the character creation screen and count how many realistic mid-to-pale skintones you can have for your toon. now count the realistic mid-to-dark ones. explain to me how that makes any sense. and let’s not even get into poc facial features and hair – because the only places you’ll find them are among the classic “evil” and “savage” races.

hiding behind lore is not only lazy, it makes you look like a complete asshole. you know who else is a complete asshole? the developers who thought turning a catch-all stereotype of First Nation tribes into anthropomorphic cows was a good idea. don’t even get me started on trolls.

I’ve also been ignoring this for a few days, but I have something to say about this.

Be realistic:

More and more, the devs are inspired by US the players. I’ve seen it happen with something that I created and with stuff that other people have created. Just recently, they added in someone’s Jed’hin both as a flavor thing and as a World Quest. They added in my Gnome Run as a micro-holiday before that plus a lot of other tiny things. 

The people at Blizzard inspire us, but it’s apparent that we give them ideas sometimes too. Less by just using words but more by showing. After all, we’re in a community together.

The people who I have met online from Blizzard are people who really enjoy creativity. Some of the stuff they reshare blows me away. They inspire the hell out of me at times. I highly doubt that they’re going to come out like a rules lawyer and say that you must abide by x and y rule of lore. I’ve never seen it.   Instead, I often see them enjoying people’s creations even if they don’t fit within the “laws of lore.” Because lore is ever changing. 

If you want to make a character with brown skin? Make your brown skinned Elf, Human, Dwarf or Gnome. Don’t look for other people’s approval. 

Make fantastic art of them, share good stories of them, write little bits about them. Proudly tag that stuff on here and any social media platform that you can. Maybe you’ll inspire other people to do the same, maybe you’ll inspire Blizzard in some way, but at the very least, you’ll be true to what you want to roleplay. 

Don’t have changing Blizzard’s mind as your goal, but know that nothing is concrete. Things are always changing and sharing what you create can help others feel more comfortable to create similar things if they’ve been told it’s a taboo. 

Lastly:

World of Warcraft has given you a sandbox to create as a roleplayer. People saying you have to abide by certain rules, especially those about skin color, aren’t worth playing with at all.

A shame you aren’t brave enough to put your name to this Anon. The information was from Mr. Metzen’s tumblr and Mr. Metzen has a history of saying lore damaging things so in the spirit of writing my response I addressed it directly to him as a writer may do for fluidity sake. For many of us who cherish lore, his comments are a sore spot and it makes perfect sense to do so. Moving on. I believe I made my own feelings clear on how I personally bend my own lore needs to rp with a large majority of the WrA community because as a general rule other people do not *appear* to hold the same standards. I like our community in the main and enjoy the RP shenanigans that we get up to. If I did not then I obviously wouldn’t do it. If my post appeared angry then you placed feelings that aren’t there and since I have a large portion of people on this Tumblr who have never RP’d with me, do not know me personally and you didn’t put your name I’m going to go out on a limb and assume you don’t actually know me. Annoyance would be more accurate which in fact is not anger. I get angry at people who do mean things like call Ms. Gampre fat. Or cause bad things to happen in the WrA community for no reason. You read shame into a message that is a personal opinion. Perhaps you’re the half blue half black half bronze half…you get the idea. I don’t shame, I would simply choose not to interact. Which I have done and is my right as an RPer. Just like I choose not to interact with certain characters because they’re complete and total assholes and RPing with them is just too frustrating to deal with. The whole point here is that when someone like Metzen who has on many, many, many occasions in public made disparaging comments concerning lore it gives the game base, those new people you mentioned, the idea that there *isn’t* any which simply is not true. And that is personally frustrating to someone like me who has a serious love of said lore. So there is no anger nor shame. Only a general disgust at a man like Metzen for jacking things he shouldn’t, especially when he no longer works for Blizzard and a personal (read that one again Anon) love of something and desire to incorporate it into my own RP which is difficult due to things just like this. So please sign your post next time so I can actually know who I’m taking to and we can really have a chat because I love lore, love to learn more of it and would happily talk about it. But don’t put emotion into my post please and thank you.
