Okay fuck it if this post reaches 666k notes by the end of 2023 I’ll practise basic self care

Why 666k? Because it’s funny and impossible so good fucking luck

Well, OP, I’m officially invested in this shit. Your whiny ass is doing self care if I have to drive to your goddamn house and do it for you.

By Talos this can’t be happening

reblog this everyone i wanna see what happens when op’s reverse-hubris forces them to practice basic self care.

why? because it’s funny and completely possible actually so good fucking luck op

I figured out roughly how many notes it’s been getting per day and multiplied that by the number of days left until the end of 2023

If we keep it going at this rate we’ll be far past 666k

IMPORTANT

Okay so clearly I’ve underestimated y’all

So how about we make this more interesting?

I will practise self care if this post reaches 666k BY THE END OF 2022

Op you have fuckethed with the devil this post has gained 30,000 notes since I reblogged it last night

Reblog to throw a hedge apple in OP’s driveway

What the fuck is this eldritch fruit? I’m in.

It’s Maclura pomifera, commonly known as the osage orange or hedge apple. It is known to be native only to a small area of Texas and the edge of Oklahoma and Arkansas. Before the invention of barbed wire, it was pruned repeatedly and shaped to make dense impenetrable hedges to contain animals.

The fruits are inedible—not poison, they’re just hard and taste bad.

The wood is super-strong, burns hotter than any other wood, and is ideal for making bows!

We should just fill this post with other interesting things as reasons to reblog it

Actually I like this idea, we should do that. Here’s my fun fact contribution; actual old English, what one could call Anglo-Saxon (as opposed to, for example, Shakespearean English, which a lot of people call old English but is actually antiquated modern English), is a Germanic language, and modern English shares a lot of roots with German because of that. It was also, at one point, written with runes.

The hagfish is a deep-sea fish speculated to be related to lamprey. It exudes a strange goo that is believed to be used to clog the gills of attackers. This goo has been found to be a very good substitute for egg whites in cooking.

HAGFISH SLIME EGG WHITE SUBSTITUTE???

Saponify is a word which means to Turn into Soap

Which is great cuz it means you can threaten to saponify someone and it will both confuse and frighten them!

Wizard Convention Banned Spell List 2022: Saponify

This is absolutely fucking incredible.

160,000 notes have been added since yesterday evening.

OP has well and truly Icarus’d too close to the fucking sun

op you are absolutely fucked

Did you know that these three gemstones

is the same???

Morganite, aquamarine, and emerald all belong to the beryl family. Also in the beryl family are heliodor, which is yellow; goshenite, which is clear; and red beryl, which is relatively rare and has no fun name.

Differences in the trace elements and temperatures of the growing environment determines the color and saturation of the stone. And! You can technically have a green beryl that is not an emerald—emerald is kept distinct by the inclusion of either vanadium or chromium, and iron. Green beryl only contains iron, making it a much paler and more yellow green.

Bonus fact: about 30% of the gemstones you could list off the top of your head are a quartz variant.

THE PLURAL OF BEEF IS BEEVES

OH IF WE’RE DOING FREE INFODUMPING!!

Did you know that the way astronomers are able to figure out the chemical components of stars is by using things called emission and absorption spectrums? This is what they look like:

The way this works is that different elements on the periodic table have different energy levels, or “shells.” That’s what those lines around the nucleus are:

When an electron gets hit with a photon, it goes into an excited state and moves up the sublevels within an energy level. Think of it like going up stairs that lead to different floors on a building! That’s what an absorption spectrum represents: it’s the photons, or essentially the light particles, that the electrons absorb.

When an electron goes down a sublevel, it releases that photon, and gives off or emits energy, which is what the emission spectrum shows. It does this at different wavelengths, and the frequencies of these wavelengths can change the color of the light. Each element has a different way of doing this, so when scientists look for the elements in stars, they look at the emission spectrum of those stars, the emission spectrum of certain elements, and see what lines up!

In the model below, you can see what that looks like in practice. By looking at at the lines on each of the elements listed below and comparing it to the observed spectrum of the star, an astronomer can pick out what elements the star has!!

I came to help with spacefodumping!!! And to add another penny to OP’s self care jar!!! ☺️

Did you know that the most wonky planet in our solar system might not be Uranus…

..But Venus?

Thaaaaat’s right!! This absolute beauty, according to certain measurements, has an axis tilt of about 177.3 degrees- she’s almost entirely upside down!! Because of this, our lovely lady actually rotates backwards as compared to the other planets!!

The definition of axal tilts has changed before, and it could definitely change again- take this with as many grains of salt as your shaker has!! ☺️ No matter what, though, she doesn’t display seasons- and we’re still exploring the possibility of life related molecules in her atmosphere!!

oya? free infodumping? for me?

imagine. imagine a sunrise, pale pinks and reds and oranges slowly creeping up from the horizon as the sun’s first daylight rays reaches your particular patch of the planet. it’s cold and sharp, the bone-deep chill of the night air clinging on tight, yet there’s still beauty in the rising of the sun; it isn’t just the promise of warmth, no, because some places, on some days, and some people, the sun will not manage to breach the atmosphere in a way that warms you well. it’s something else – a new beginning, maybe, or the hope of the light at the end of the tunnel.

or maybe the colors, in all their shades and the way they bounce and light up the world after a long time of darkness, and the way they turn the clouds into cotton candy and the sky into pastel lightshow– maybe theyre just beautiful. they’re still cold and pale, the colors, and the sun’s rising rays, but they’re there and they’re hope and they’re beautiful.

now, shift your imagination. it’s just a little bit, and yet a completely different time; it’s still the sun, and it’s still its magnificent colors, but instead of the beginnings it brings it’s the endings that follow. think of a sunset, feel it in your mind, and now ask: what has changed? what is different? how are sunrises and sunsets so alike yet completely different?

(if your answer is “time of day, duh” i see you, and i appreciate you, but think a little deeper)

it’s the warmth. sunsets are warm. their colors are vibrant and deep, even the puroles and the blues having a shade of warmth to them, and even though the temperature has been falling for hours, ever since midday, the sunlight is still a warm embrace. darkness is creeping in on all sides and the light is falling below the horizon, but there’s no fear, for it isn’t scary; even the darkness is welcoming, carrying a warmth with it that it will lose before the morning.

a sunrise and a sunset are each beautiful in their own right, and both are revered for their beauty, as they rightfully deserve. but why are the beginnings cold and the endings warm?

there is, of course, every scientific explanation in the world, and even the common sense that hasn’t required any science for as long as the human race has been: that the feeling of warmth may be immediate but becoming it takes time, just as it takes time for that warmth to flee. this is not about the science, so put those thoughts away, if you can – but keep in touch with the ones of feeling vs. beeing.

the feeling of warmth lays upon your skin, granting you a glow of relief from the cold of the night. it’s temporary and no fix – remove yourself from the source of the warmth, and you will once again be cold.

the state of being warm, however, is exactly that: it’s a state. what was temporary has seeped into you, become part of you, and now warms every part of you that it can get its hands on. it sits in every corner of you, glowing and making you shine, filling you with everything good and granting you the freedom of being without seeking a constant source of heat.

of course, such a state isn’t permanent. exist without an external source of heat for too long, and your warmth will escape you to warm everything around you. the warmth is always there, just somewhere else. the sun and its light is the same, always there, always just on the other side of the planet – and that’s why both the cold beginnings of the rising sun and the warm endings of the setting one are symbols of hope. they’re warm, and promise warmth, forever on end because the sun is always there, even when you can’t see or feel it. and the beginnings are cold because, no matter how many times you’ve gone through it, change is always difficult; but if you embrace is, let it seep in, it becomes one with you. and the ending will be warm, albeit likely bittersweet, because you achieved and you changed and now you lost.

but it’s okay, because the same sun will smile upon you in the morning. the change will be there for you to grasp – and when you do, it will teach you to keep yourself warm and glowing, so even when the sun sets you can smile and let the darkness embrace you without fear, for you are your own sun.
