I came on Tumblr expecting cool art of my new purple hacker girlfriend I’ve seen like 3 types of discourse about her instead can you enjoy an awesome latina synthwave aesthetic character without fucking everything up for once

And like I’m not even saying some of the discourse is “bad” or unwarranted like let’s just settle it all in one post:

She’s thirty and she “doesn’t look thirty”. Fair – media does not like depicting woman thirty or older with any semblance that they aged past 20. I’m also almost 30 and am constantly mistaken for 20 or younger. Like I can go both ways on this argument so I can deal.

She’s a “sassy latina stereotype”. Fair. Also funny, likeable, INCREDIBLY intelligent, non-sexualized in design and outfit and pretty cool. Also sometimes I’m just THAT happy to see latina characters in things so I can deal.

“Fanon’s ‘Sombrat’ is infantilizing to a grown ass woman just like Gremlin D.Va”. Fair, especially when Sombra is twelve years older than D.Va. I am also fully aware that fandom makes these sort of depictions based largely on shallow character personality cues for the sake silly comics and doodles only and do not effect the actual canon character or my interpretation of how rad she is so I can deal.

As a question without any bias to it.

Do you feel it’s coincidence that both Latinx characters are villains?

Nope. Somehow no one is discussing that point though, I only highlighted what I’ve seen.

Still love this character, not a fan of that transparent BS on Blizz’s part. Like it’s super suspect but people are tight-lipped about it HMM.

Or how the Russians are being protrayed as corrupt, scheming psuedo-villains.

So what villainous things has Sombra done?
