youre a fucking furry. thats a fucking fursona. dont lie to yourself. dont lie to me. dont lie to god.

Do it because you want to. Ignore all the people who are desperate to slap the “furry” label onto you just because you were inspired by the movie’s gorgeous character designs and animation.

Contrary to popular and ignorant belief, you are not a furry simply because you enjoy or draw anthropomorphic animals. Heck, having a fursona doesn’t make you a furry either. You are only a furry if you consider yourself as one. Conversely, there is nothing wrong with identifying with or being a furry. However not everyone is comfortable with being associated with the term (especially when they do not identify with it). So stop forcing that label on people and artists.

I have nothing against furries but it pains me to see such a brilliant film like Zootopia being cheapened into “the furry movie” and for people and furries alike to be shamed and ridiculed for wanting to make their own sonas or characters or for identifying with the movie???

Posts like these bother me because I can see someone who was inspired to make their own character or sona feel uncomfortable and ashamed or even afraid to share their ideas in fear of not being taken seriously or having their work cheapened after seeing comments like these. And that’s just not okay.

Some of us have been in Furry fandom long enough to have seen this before, so once more for the folks who haven’t learned from history:

If you’re serious about not wanting to see folks shamed and ridiculed for liking anthropomorphic animals, the best way to do that is to stop avoiding the term that’s been used for them the past thirty years: FURRY.

You’re a Furry if you’re a fan of anthropomorphic animals. Period, full stop. That’s literally been the definition for three decades. You’re not comfortable with the term? Try doing something about it that doesn’t involve dumping on the fandom. Segregating yourself and desperately denying it will not help you.

Stop claiming that calling Zootopia a Furry movie (and it is, by definition, a Furry movie) somehow “cheapens” it. Avoiding the term does nothing to counteract the misinformation you’re supposedly so upset about.

You’re not helping anyone, including yourself, by running away and hiding.

Just stop.

This is now the post of wisdom; @xydexx is right, people.

Just be.
