David Bowie?

David Bowie was pop.

David Bowie was the avatar of Glam. He midwifed New Age. He embraced industrial. For almost forty years, David Bowie left a fingerprint in every aspect and genre of modern music.

Everything new on the radio … almost everything old … all of it owes some small debt to Bowie.

He wasn’t just ahead of the curve; he was the definition of “the next big thing.” In 200 years, history books will write about David Bowie the way they currently do about Mozart.

He was a big deal. He was the biggest deal, and rightfully so. He embodied the rarest of artistic achievement: constant reinvention, on his own terms, with continuing success.

And now he’s gone, and I dunno what we’ll do without him.
