no you don’t understand this scene is literally a work of art for so many reasons…1) tricking us into believing that the statue he was standing in front of in the intro is what he was commemorating but instead panning out as mayor dewey announces the presence of the giant bowl of ice cream 2) the fact that he has to look at notes in his sleeve to remember the slogan “let’s all scream for ice cream” 3) the revelation that there was an entire meeting dedicated to creating the largest bowl of ice cream in beach city and the revelation that mayor dewey was unaware that ice cream can melt
