I understand the passive-aggressiveness of the Reblogs vs Likes debate, but let me offer a little perspective. When I see art I like on Tumblr from artists I follow, most of the time I reblog it, because I feel like it’s the best positive reinforcement you can give an artist. It’s not just saying “Hey, I like that thing you do!” It’s saying “I like what you do, and I want everyone to like it too!” It’s the difference between someone cheering you on, and actually being at your side.
Like I said, I definitely get the elation of having art reblogged instead of just liked. It’s definitely a higher form of encouragement. I just don’t think anybody should feel guilted into doing it if they don’t want to for whatever reason.
I was looking through the comments of the original post and came across this:
And that is just such a juvenile and demanding mindset to have. Nobody is obligated to do anything, it’s just a good gesture.
Whether you get a lot of notes on a post is essentially random as well. That’s why morning/afternoon reblogs have become a thing. I’ve also had posts blow up with the notes months after I posted it. (I may have caused this in at least one case, too) If you’re deleting things because nobody reblogged them, and you want people to see them you’re only doing yourself a disservice.
