Northrend in Panorama

Here are some panoramic photos of various areas around Northrend.

Northrend is the region now inhabited by the remnants of the Argent Crusade, the Kirin Tor, and citizens of the Kingdom of Dalaran who claim the floating city as their home and capital (“Kirin Tor” is a term used to describe the Magus Senate of Dalaran, or the collection of powerful mages that study and record the history of humanity).  There are also smaller pockets of different inhabitants located in various regions of Northrend.

Dalaran is in fact both a floating city and a kingdom.  The city itself was once located in the foothills of the Alterac Mountains but now resides over the Crystalsong Forest (in brief, it was razed by Arthas, rebuilt under a powerful shield, and then moved to Northrend).  The kingdom has less than 3,000 citizens, of which less than 120 are members of the Kirin Tor.

Prior to Patch 5.1, members of the Horde were allowed to freely travel in and around Dalaran and associate with the Kirin Tor.

Since that time, members of the Horde have been expelled from Dalaran on orders by Jaina Proudmoore, current Archmage of the Kirin Tor.

It should be noted that Horde players may still use Dalaran in-game as they have in the past, but in terms of Azerothian lore they are (at current posting time) barred from the city.  In other words, nothing in-game has changed mechanically in the city and it is fully functional for Horde players; however Horde role players are nearly non-existent there as it conflicts with the current lore given where we are in the timeline of Azerothian history.

During the “Wrath of the Lich King” expansion, Northrend was also the place of residence of the Lich King (formerly Arthas Menethil), who claimed Icecrown Citadel as his primary fortress and main base of operations.

Of course, this photo set is by no means comprehensive of everything there is to see in-game; however, it should give someone a good idea of Northrend architecture and design.

Enjoy!
