This is 100% new and 100% Tumblr with 0% ads.

If you love ads, then this post is not for you. If you love Tumblr but hate ads and want the one to continue without having to endure the other, then this post is literally for you. Hello, you.

As of today, you can set up ad-free browsing on your personal desktop computer, from anywhere in the world, and then enjoy the same effervescent Tumblr you know and love (yes, including mobile) without the interruption of ads. Scroll away.

Some caveats:

  • It’s $4.99 for a month of pure, unadulterated nonsense.
  • If you like a discount, you can get 33% off (that’s four months for free) at $39.99 for a whole year. Imagine.
  • This is opt-in. You don’t have to do this. We won’t make you.

How do you opt in?

Easy! Just go to your Account Settings on desktop and hit “Go Ad-Free.” From there, you can choose to pay monthly or yearly:

And that’s it! You’ll be able to enjoy your favorite blogs and posts without any pesky ads getting in the way.

That’s all for now, Tumblr. Back to your blorbos.

You requested, we listened: You can now sign up for Ad-Free Browsing on Android and iOS. Remember that your dash will be ad-free across all platforms once you’ve signed up. That’s all platforms. That’s mobile and web. Ta-da!

the brave browser is free and blocks ads for you, and its features don’t break tumblr so you can keep it on

i reblogged this with the intention of supporting tumblr financially, since this is the only social media i care about and i want it to continue existing. yes, it’s not perfect, and there are a lot of issues it needs to address (for instance, if we’re paying for no ads then advertisers shouldn’t have any bearing on what content we’re allowed to see/post, e.g. adult content) but there can’t be change if it ceases to exist. there are already tons of options for blocking ads; that’s not the point. the point is to support tumblr so that we are the consumer and not the product.

Exactly, it sucks that the default is “make ads pay for things” but the step up from that is, “make things people want to subscribe to” we, as the users, actually have to put the value proposition there first.

Yes I’ve always run adblock on tumblr, I’m still running adlbock on tumblr but

Tumblr isn’t perfect but, I feel its worth preserving, and thus I participate in its preservation.
