All the people talking about the gold standard in the comments: you realize gold has as much intrinsic value as everything else right? it’s just a yellow metal we call pretty and has uses for stuff only humans do. It has as much value as numbers in a database. It had no value before humans. It will have no value after humans.

The money made up from gold being valuable is just as money made up from fractional reserve banking.

I say this as a guy who spent the better part of a decade around gold/silver/platinum/palladium.
