So really the answer to “what is alienating conservatives” is “absolutely anything that reminds them of any new information they’ve learned about the world since they were a small child” and it becomes a lot more clear how futile it is to pretend you care about what they want
nintendo’s reaction to shit like video game preservation or regular people trying to fix their broken ass consoles and systems does infinitely more damage to their image than anything any singular person or community could ever do and i hope the streisand effect hits them hard

Bro, I hate to say this but sometimes things that aren’t connected to the internet also need firmware updates!
My server room’s AC has a bug where it won’t start cooling if the room temp goes too far below the set-point of the AC and then goes back up above the set point again. Its a repeatable bug (reboot it fixes the setpoint, turn down the AC until it activates ALSO fixes the setpoint.)
I’d do something other than complain about this on tumblr if I could update! the! firmware!
update: my AC apparently DOES have the ability to connect to the internet over wifi
