As someone who is asexual, and NEVER sexual, as it means to be asexual, I, and many other asexuals, find the whole “asexual spectrum” idea to be incredibly offensive and diminishing of our identity. It gives those who aren’t asexual to excuse to say, “oh, well, these other people say that they’re asexual, but they’re sexual sometimes, so you probably will be eventually too.” You just CANNOT be “sometimes sexual depending on circumstance” and be considered actually asexual, so please stop.

I mean, I’m a sex-repulsed asexual who’s never taken part in partnered sexual activity, for one, so I have no idea what exactly your problem is with me specifically, anon.
Sexuality in general is, in fact, a spectrum. Asexual people don’t experience sexual attraction. That has nothing to do with the kind of sexual behavior they may or may not choose to take part in. And, to be honest, I don’t see how someone who rarely experiences sexual attraction seeking a place in a community of very similar people is hurting anyone.
Anyone who takes the idea of an asexual spectrum and uses it to say “you’re not really asexual” or “one day you’ll do the sex thing” isn’t someone who was going to take asexuality seriously to begin with, or someone who approached the conversation with an open mind. I mean, by that logic, any gay person who’s ever had sex with someone of a different gender could be told, “Well, you did it before. You sure you’re not straight?” It’s bad logic based on a false assumption, which is usually the result of willful ignorance.
