The campfire crackled, embers floating into the night sky freely. Their tent was hitched and ready to go, they had brought plenty of tasty food for Ro’liath and a pile of furs to sleep on as well. They’d decided to take a hunting trip upon returning to Azeroth, afterall, all Tevruden did was work work work. Plus, it was nice to have some alone time, especially when they weren’t fearing an attack.

Ro’liath’s knees were pulled to his chest, staring up at the starry sky as the smoke from his cigarette mixed with the embers that wafted towards the clouds. Tevruden had busied himself drinking from his flask, the lichbloom spiked alcohol mellowing the larger of the two considerably.

It was fairly quiet, the smaller elf finding peace and solace in the other’s comfort. No words were exchanged as their shoulders pressed together, though when Tevruden’s head rolled onto his shoulder, Ro’liath chuckled.

“Drunk already, big guy?” He asked, though there was no response, “Ooh-ho, didn’t know alcohol was how you shut up.” He turned to look down at the other, and the gaze that met him had his chest seizing up.

Tevruden’s brows were knit, his mouth hanging agape as his lich-flame eyes burned faintly. There was an emotion in those eyes, something Ro’liath couldn’t quite place. Maybe longing? Or something else…?

“I love you.” Tevruden slurred, and the smaller knight’s face flushed, his throat going dry.

“Wh…what?” Ro’liath whispered, as if speaking too loud would shatter the cracks those words raked through his body.

“I love you, Ro’liath. I’ve loved you for a long time, I just don’t think I… realized it.”

His ears wilted, eyes growing wet. He didn’t even know what to say, he wanted to ask so many questions but his body was numb with disbelief. Was it true? Did Tevruden really love him? The tears rolled down his cheeks freely, and as they did, the larger knight reached up to wipe them away gently.

Tevruden leaned up, their lips a breath apart, “Your answer, Frostbane?” He gave a lopsided grin, and all Ro’liath could do was nod enthusiastically, sniffling as he did before the gap between them closed with a kiss.
