Cyttaria darwinii is a peculiar species of fungi native to South America and is parasitic on southern beech (Nothofagus spp.). They form woody galls, however, they do not cause wood rot. Though heavy infestations can kill a tree, it has been observed that small infections do not seem to cause any serious long-term detriments to their host.
