It’s not that characters like that can’t be written about. It’s that, like most rape storylines, it’s done for shock rather than treating the traumatic experience with respect. That character background is a perfect example. His mother was violently raped, then died giving birth to him. She doesn’t exist for ANY reason except to make her son’s backstory tragic. She is not treated as a real person who suffered trauma, and it has no affect on her son as a person.
I love Anastasia but they get so much shit wrong and I had to talk about it.
