So people always raise a stink about fanart getting more recognition than original art on tumblr. And I get it. It takes the same amount of effort on your part to draw an OC as it does to draw a popular character, and only one gets a significant amount of notes. That can be annoying.
But here’s the thing: That popular character is already part of an emotional journey to the viewer, whereas your OC is probably not. Your viewers have seen the popular character try and fail and live. They are loving the story behind the art. All the notes you get on that post? That’s you standing on the shoulders of storytelling giants.
In contrast, when you upload a picture of your OC, most people just see lines on a page. It’s a hard sell because they know nothing about your character’s story.
Basically what I’m saying is this: If you want people to love your original content as much as they love your fanart, you’re going to have to work just as hard as the creators of the popular things did. Take your viewers on a journey and they’ll start to see your characters as more than lines on a page.
My drawing mojo is BACK! I seemed to have finally clawed my way out of that month long art slump. My alt hoarding problem has also come back, with Hahona a Feral druid.
my first wondertrade in oras and i got a machamp incredible
all it knows is dig
level 31 and it just knows dig
what am i supposed to do with this
is
is this machamp’s name “homo matsuri”
as in
“homo festival”
yea this is good
Some more interesting information:
“Dig” in Japanese was originally “Ana wo horu,” which translates to “Dig a hole,” with the direct object’s being “Ana,” “a hole” and the verb’s being “horu,” “dig.”
The common writing of “ana,” “穴,” is the same as a colloquial term for the buttocks, “ketsu.”
“Horu,” in addition to it’s more standard definition, is also a slang verb meaning “to have anal sex (between two men).”
Your new Machamp is named “Homo Festival,” and it’s only move is to fuck a man in the ass.
sorry it’s so long, but i saw a post on my dash about someone who said they would unfollow anyone who posted screamers, and i felt like compiling this into a list!!
seriously, be nice. april fools’s’s’s’ with the debatable apostrophes is a day for jokes and pranks, not for hurting people. screamers aren’t funny. rick astley is funny because you can close that as soon as you hear the opening chords.
There’s an original story to go with this photoset at the source, which I’ll translate/summarize here:
A fish falls in love with a man, quietly listening to the sounds of his guqin. In order to be with him, she asks the Buddha to turn her into a human. The Buddha cautions her that nothing is forever. Finally, she is able to meet the man as a person, and they spend their days in peaceful bliss.
However, one day, she discovers that the man is an immortal, who secretly defied heaven’s laws and came down to earth to be with her. She begs heaven to keep him from harm. He tells her that he chooses being with her over being an immortal. With a sigh, the Buddha muses that the immortal would throw away a thousand years of training for this one lifetime.
(So basically, a little like a Chinese version of “The Little Mermaid”.)
