THEY ARE MAKING THESE FUCKING COMPLEX MOTION CAPTURE CGI MODELS FOR MALE ORCS, AND THEY LOOKED AT GARONA, WHO LOOKS LIKE THIS
AND THEY LOOKED AT THIS AND SAID “LETS PAINT MEGAN FOX GREEN!!”
THIS PASSED
MULTIPLE LEVELS OF DEVELOPMENT
WHERE EACH SUPERVISOR LOOKED AT IT
AND SAID
YEAH
YEAH THIS LOOKS GOOD THIS IS A GOOD IDEA
I hate this.
I love the people going ‘argh Blizzard’ and yes, this does look cheap as hell and yeah I’m sure a few people from Blizzard had a say in this, but they aren’t making the movie alone.
There were a bunch of other people involved in the whole movie making process. The majority, probably. Blizzard the minority just providing source material and creative insight.
That said, I hope this is just something from the marketing department since it looks like a movie poster/promotional picture and that she’s actually a lot buffer and more orcish in the movie itself.
Also it ain’t Megan Fox.
Implying that you can use the Warcraft comic as a decent reference for anything.
The comic that made red-headed, bearded Darion into Cloud Hogan.
Look at how small his mouth is. How pig-like his tiny eyes are. Look how blonde his hair is. Or how small his elbow is compaed to his bicep or forearm while giving leeway for the blacked out word bubble.
Nobody looks at the Warcraft comic art as a reference for anything BECAUSE IT’S FUCKING AWFUL.
ON THE ENTIRELY OTHER HAND. That half-orc is missing a lot of muscle tone. But just. Find a better reference than a comic that could be mistaken for a fantasy weight-lifter magazine. There are other sources for Garona art.
I don’t disagree with the opinion that they could have done a lot better portraying the character in this new medium (considering they have taken a lot of design liberties to begin with) but here let’s have some of the original Garona art (from the time period portrayed in the movie, no less):
She was never exactly a beacon of good, tasteful character design. The movie version actually looks impressively accurate to this original piece– not necessarily for the better, but it was likely the reference used.
She’s also supposed to look half human, so they probably didn’t want her to look too savage like the other orcs.
this is honestly the funniest and most embarrassing/reaching string of responses ive gotten so far please keep it up i love it when people try and justify this.
(in game model; obviously the intent was to lean more to the orcish side of things)
@god please kill me
The intent behind these promotional images was obviously not fucking beholden to visual accuracy to the lore or dignity to their female characters as serious fleshed out characters that are meant to be taken as more than sex appeal; it is 100% for the titillation of their straight male audience base. it was engineered and probably fucking peer focused to get the necessary amounts of Tits and Ass in their promo pics.
Do not. Justify Blizzard on this. Do not defend them as “she’s supposed to be half draenei/human!” because obviously the design and visual concept of the character has changed over the years from their original concept art for any of the races (which, if you want to pass it off as Holding True To Her Original Design, let me see the CGI orcs and trolls that look like their original WCII early concept art)
Do not let a company rest on their laurels that what they’re doing is Totally Cool when their promo art looks like a cheap porno edition of the upcoming movie
come on. Try asking for more out of a company you like.
Wait but she’s draenei/orc not draenei/human why do people think she needs to look human
lmao

682 notes and ya’ll are getting way too upset over blurry second-hand screenshots of a video game movie.
